Within POSSE, data input accuracy and validation is ensured through a variety of mechanisms. First, mandatory fields are highlighted and data is validated based on its format (i.e. datatype). Second, the outcome-based workflow engine ensures that all prerequisite fields are populated prior to allowing each outcome to be selected. That is, for example, the outcome of “failed” may not be selected for a given inspection if no deficiencies have been entered. Finally, workflows are designed to ensure that there are multiple opportunities for staff review ensuring bad data is not inadvertently approved.
