Edmonton, Canada – Computronix has announced that the British Columbia Natural Resource Sector is the winner of the 2013 Computronix Customer Innovation Award in the “Innovative Use of POSSE” category. The award was presented Sept. 18 at the international Computronix Client Conference and awards gala in Edmonton.
The annual award recognizes the Computronix client that implemented the most innovative and business-worthy information technology solution using Computronix’s POSSE software product. This year’s award was given to the Natural Resource Sector group of B.C. government ministries for FrontCounter BC’s new online “electronic Authorizations Submission” (eAS) system, which provides a one-stop, best-practice application intake engine for a multitude of natural resource permits, licences, certifications, and other regulatory authorizations.
In presenting the award, Jim den Otter, Computronix’s Chief Technology Officer, recognized the effort by the Kamloops, B.C.-based FrontCounter BC team, led by Program Director Nelson Grant.
“FrontCounter BC’s eAS solution represents some truly unique and ground-breaking thinking by government,” said den Otter.
“Virtually every government agency is trying to solve the same problem: How can you leverage smart thinking and good technology to provide a single, highly convenient, and intuitive experience, regardless of the permit or licence types required? The eAS system is an exemplary best-practice system that helps customers move quickly and easily through a maze of regulatory requirements. This vastly superior, simplified approach is one we will strongly advocate going forward and, in fact, it is already receiving close attention from several other agencies in Canada,” said den Otter.
With a comprehensive online service portal and 29 locations across the province, FrontCounter BC (www.frontcounterbc.gov.bc.ca) offers a single-window service for clients of the province’s natural resource ministries and agencies. FrontCounter BC’s eAS solution successfully consolidates over 40 different paper-based permit and licence application forms into a single, re-usable, 12-step electronic application process that is capable of supporting any permit or licence type. Phase One of the award-winning eAS system went live in production in February 2013. Eventually, all provincial natural resource permit and licence applications in B.C. will be supported by the application.
POSSE has been used extensively in the Natural Resource Sector since 2007 to support the internal processing by staff of a variety of licensing, permitting, and environmental management activities, including recreational angling licensing, water use and aquaculture licensing, parks use permits, archaeology permits, and much more.
FrontCounter BC’s eAS project was nominated from a field of approximately 30 Computronix clients representing a wide spectrum of municipal and local government, U.S. state, and Canadian provincial regulatory agencies.
