Computronix NewsSmithsonian Institute adds POSSE to collection of innovative IT systemsApril 6, 1998 POSSE's approach to workflow, data management, remote computing and GIS map integration won two international awards in 1997, and will now be permanently archived at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of American History in Washington. Each year the Computerworld Smithsonian Awards Program identifies and honors men and women whose visionary use of information technology produces positive social, economic and educational change. Computronix and the City of Edmonton were nominated by the Computerworld Smithsonian Awards Chairmen's Committee. The committee deemed the innovative use of information technology in POSSE to be of great historical value and worthy of being included in the Permanent Research Collection at the Smithsonian Institution. The Chairmen's Committee consists of more than 100 executive leaders of prominent information technology and telecommunications companies. POSSE is a unique world-class system that drives radical service improvements by providing "one-stop" information products and services. The "POSSE Approach" enables staff to satisfy most customer requests on-the-spot and promotes a learning environment for continuous improvements. POSSE was originally designed to address the problems that governments have when trying to track property ownership, zoning and land management, building inspections and permits, property taxes and business licenses across many databases, many departments, and often separate offices. Without reprogramming the system, POSSE can be easily adapted to meet ongoing business changes – thereby providing value to both public and private sector organizations. Computronix is a software development and consulting company founded in 1979. We employ over 75 professional staff from our Edmonton, Alberta office. POSSE was built using PowerBuilder, Oracle, Sybase SQL Anywhere, Super!Class™, MapInfo and Windows technologies. –30– |
