POSSE chosen for continuing innovative customer service at Mecklenburg County

October 18, 2002

Computronix is pleased to announce that Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, has selected POSSE as the County's new electronic permitting and inspections system. POSSE will also integrate with voice automation and wireless technologies at the County.

Mecklenburg County is the largest county by population in North Carolina, with over 730,000 inhabitants. The Code Enforcement department serves Mecklenburg County, the City of Charlotte and six towns, covering 520 square miles.

The department is one of the largest authorities east of the Mississippi River, issuing over 70,000 permits and performing over 300,000 inspections a year, with an annual construction value of $3 billion.

“The sheer size of the operation could be a costly inconvenience to citizens and contractors were it not for the high degree of automation used. POSSE was chosen as the best product for the County to continue the pace of technological innovation in serving our customers well,” said Jim Bartl, County Project Sponsor.

The County presently uses several Web-based forms and reports to extend its current permitting and inspection system use and services to the Internet.

“A key aspect of this implementation will be to preserve and extend existing business functionality and services,” said Keith Burgess, POSSE Business Development Manager.

“The County has a history of strong in-house application development and has a solid understanding of emerging technologies. Business users and customers in the County have high expectations for performance-tuned, streamlined applications that meet very complex business needs while saving them time and costs,” Burgess explained. “Computronix believes POSSE will provide the exact combination of features that the County is looking for.”

Computronix will also work with subcontractors to integrate POSSE with a new integrated voice response (IVR) system as well as the County's current wireless application protocol (WAP) phone application.
