City of Edmonton wins two more awards for its POSSE system

November 30, 1998

The City of Edmonton has won the Canadian Information Productivity Award (CIPA) in the category of government and the 1998 Distinction '98 Gold Medal for innovative service delivery in the municipal category for its implementation of the POSSE system.

The annual Canadian Information Productivity Awards recognize individuals and organizations that make the most effective use of information technology as a business enabling tool. The awards are presented by the Canadian Business Magazine, Canadian Information Processing Society, Centre de recherche informatique de Montréal, Ernst & Young, the Information Technology Association of Canada and the Royal Bank of Canada.

The Distinction '98 Awards are designed to formally recognize leadership, innovation and excellence in the management and use of information and information technologies within the public sector. The Awards are conceived and produced by Connelly Business Exhibitions and co-sponsored by Technology in Government, published by Plesman Publications.

"Together with the CIO Canada Award in September 1998, these two new awards complete the 'Triple Crown' for POSSE – a system proven to empower City of Edmonton staff to new levels of service," said Don Smallwood, Vice President of Computronix.

Over the past 18 months, the City of Edmonton received three awards, the 1998 CIO/ITX Award, the 1997 URISA Award and the 1997 Bertelsmann Award, for its implementation of POSSE. Computronix and the City of Edmonton were also nominated for a Computerworld Smithsonian Award, and POSSE was inducted into the Smithsonian Institution in April 1998.

POSSE is a system for municipal governments combining configurable workflow, spatial GIS, and remote computing technologies into a single, integrated system, resulting in a "One-Stop" environment for information products and services.
