Computronix NewsDouglas County to replace old building system with POSSEUsing phased approach increased confidence and mitigated project risksNovember 10, 2003 With rapid growth and the desire to better serve the development community, Douglas County, Colorado, has begun implementing a new work management system for building and development related activities using POSSE®. The building system project began in the winter of 2003 with a proof of concept for interfacing POSSE with some existing County systems. In the spring, a second phase was initiated and involved building a prototype and formal design documentation. Completing the first two phases successfully, the formal acceptance and implementation of POSSE at the County began in August. "The POSSE system will allow Douglas County to better serve both Douglas County residents and businesses allowing them to transcend both time and distance when doing business with Douglas County,” said Gregg Powers, Chief Technology Officer, Douglas County. “Building Inspectors will be able to take parts of the POSSE system database to a job site, enabling them to be much more efficient in the inspection process when compared to traditional paper based scheduling, dispatching, and note taking at the job site. When the system is complete, many enhanced services, such as the scheduling of inspections and requesting permits, and checking contractor status, will be available over the Internet and through a Voice Response system," said Powers. “The approach of these three projects has mitigated any risk for Douglas County and Computronix. The project to date has allowed a strong relationship to be developed prior to the County committing to purchasing POSSE and before Computronix committed to any fixed costs for development work. A real plus all around,” said Albert Langemann, General Manager for Computronix (U.S.A.). Computronix will be providing all configuration services for the project while Douglas County staff will be responsible for POSSE report writing and system interfaces to other County systems. POSSE will be integrated with the County’s Content Management System (CMS), addressing system, and Integrated Voice Response (IVR) system. Douglas County is strategically located between Colorado's two largest cities: Denver and Colorado Springs. According to Census 2000, Douglas County's 191 per cent population increase between 1990 and 2000 made it the nation's fastest growing county for the decade (based on percentage change). –30– |
