Computronix NewsComputronix wins CIPS award for POSSEMay 31, 2000 Computronix, developer of the POSSE system, is a recipient of the 2000 Canadian Software Systems CIPS Achievement Award. The annual award is given by the Canadian Information Processing Society (CIPS) for a software system originating in Canada that has had a significant effect, as evidenced by new concepts, market acceptance, increased competitiveness, or influence on later software developments. Computronix president Herman Leusink, I.S.P., accepted the award May 30 in Toronto. "It is extremely gratifying to be recognized in this way by CIPS," said Leusink. "POSSE is an outstanding product and we are committed to making it even better." POSSE is a work management system used for licensing, planning and development, permitting and remote inspections, desktop mapping and GIS, Internet access and much more. Clients include both government and private sector businesses across North America, including the cities of Edmonton, Calgary, Surrey, and Saskatoon; the City and County of Honolulu; Chesterfield County, Virginia; Hamilton County, Indiana; and the Technical Standards & Safety Authority of Ontario, Canada. "Our most recent start-up, the City of Surrey, is extremely pleased with POSSE, as well as the implementation services provided by Computronix," said Leusink. "This award is shared by all of us at Computronix who have worked very hard to make POSSE and Computronix what they are today." POSSE was first built for the City of Edmonton in 1995 and developed into a commercial product starting in 1997. The City of Edmonton has received five national and international awards for the implementation of POSSE, and along with Computronix were also inducted into the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C., for visionary use of information technology.
