City of Dallas to use POSSE for new Land Management System

January 6, 2004

The City of Dallas has licensed POSSE® to support land management activities, such as permitting and inspections for over 300,000 parcels of land, and improve customer service to over 1.18 million people.

The City’s Department of Development Services, Housing Department, and Special Collections Division of Dallas Water Utilities will use POSSE for its land management related activities. Dallas is the eighth largest city in the United States.

"The Department recently underwent a significant amalgamation of services. The City's challenge was to find a single software system that could meet everyone's needs. The need for flexibility, adaptability and scalability in the City's new Land Management System was mission-critical," said Keith Burgess, POSSE Business Development Manager, Computronix.

Theresa O’Donnell, Director of Development Services, enthusiastically embraces the POSSE solution: “Dallas has lumbered along with an outdated legacy system, several separate databases and manual systems over the past several years. We are eager to move forward with the POSSE solution, as we anticipate far greater customer service and staff efficiencies.”

POSSE will provide the foundation for an integrated information system that will bring together land development, building permit, and other information that currently resides in various manual and computer-based files and will closely integrate with the City’s ESRI GIS system. POSSE will automate many manual procedures used by the Development Services and Housing departments in the acceptance of applications, review, inspection, tracking and approval of land development and building construction, special collections, and housing assistance projects.

"In the marketplace today, POSSE offers a truly unique versatility that makes the product very appealing to large organizations such at Dallas where change is inevitable, frequent, and at times, radical. The Dallas project team was very diligent and thorough in making its selection," said Burgess.

The POSSE system will allow the City and its customers to create, revise, update and track project information over the Internet. Customers will be able to submit applications and related documents online, check on project status, and pay for permits using an online transaction processing system.

Computronix (Canada) Ltd., assisted by Computronix (U.S.A.), Inc., and three certified minority subcontractors – ADTEK Corporation, West Technologies, Inc. and National Systems, Inc. – will provide the turnkey land management solution which includes the POSSE Work Management System, related hardware and services.

POSSE is used by over 20 government and private-sector clients across North America for a wide variety of activities including regulatory activities, health and building related inspections, land management, planning, and much more, utilizing integrated mobile, Internet and client-server technologies.
