Computronix NewsAlberta selects POSSE for Clearance and PermittingMay 1, 2008 Computronix is pleased to announce that the Government of Alberta has selected POSSE® Government Software through an open competitive process to provide an online E-Government solution to manage the submission and approval of clearances and research permits related to historic sites, parks and protected areas. Alberta, home to the largest oil and natural gas deposits outside of the Middle East, has led Canada's economic growth over the last decade as an unparalleled energy boom attracted workers and commercial and industrial development investment to the western province where 3.5 million people now reside. The government’s latest POSSE system will help to streamline application and review processes for all stakeholders while mitigating the boom’s impacts on the province’s rich and important historical resources (including parks, archaeological sites, historic structures, First Nations traditional cultural sites, and palaeontological sites). As an e-Business Solution, the Web-based Clearance and Permitting System will provide a secured online environment through which developers and permit applicants may submit applications, monitor the status of their applications, and access relevant data, research and reports. The immediate Phase One goal is to improve the efficiency of three Historic Resources Management (HRM) and the Parks and Protected Areas Program (PPAP) research permit processes. The Clearance and Permitting System project will involve business processes shared by two Alberta ministries: Alberta Tourism, Parks and Recreation, and Alberta Culture and Community Spirit. “We are delighted to be selected to provide the Government of Alberta with a clearance and permitting technical solution,” said John Boonstra, Alberta Regional Manager. “POSSE is already a presence in several Government of Alberta departments and municipalities and its integration into these Ministries will add to the growing number of POSSE e-Business Solutions that are providing intuitive, efficient and secure online environments. We are confident that Web-based POSSE will provide excellent turn-around times for permits and simplified access to historical data. We look forward to a successful long-term relationship.” Future project phases may include many other integrated regulatory compliance activities and processes managed by the participating ministries. POSSE government software is also used within Alberta Environment and Alberta Municipal Affairs. –30– For more information, please contact: John Boonstra
